In around six years of jewellery making I can’t believe I have never made any necklaces like this before! To make them I just threaded some gemstones onto cord and then added a clasp using crimp beads and jump rings. The hardest part of making these necklaces is finding gemstones with a large enough hole to thread onto the cord. These ones are made with s-lon cord, I think with a diameter of 0.4mm. Once they are threaded on I made a knot either side to keep them in place.

I’ve made three so far (they only take a few minutes to make!) in labradorite, amethyst and lapis lazuli and in three different lengths (14, 16 and 18 inches).

I have used chips and nuggets for these necklaces but I think they would look really good with one bigger gemstone too. They would make amazing bracelets too just by using a shorter cord.

I will be making more of these necklaces in all the colours! What gemstone and colour combinations would you make?
